  • Is there anywhere to store my personal belongings on site?
    A. We encourage all participants to only bring items with them what they can carry in a backpack, waist pouch, or on their body as we do not anywhere to store personal belongings.
  • What about participants in wheelchairs?
    A. Wheelchair access is available along the route. We are following along the sidewalk the entire walk, keeping everyone on the same path!
  • What happens if it rains the day of the event?
    A. The Strides for Obesity event will happen rain or shine, so make sure to bring the appropriate gear for whatever weather we may be expecting.

  • Are dogs, stroller, bicycles, and skates allowed on event day?"
    A. Dogs and strollers are welcome along the walk/run route. To be fair to those wanting to run, dogs and strollers should start at the back of the start line. As for inline skates, bicycles, scooters, and skateboards, for safety reasons they are not permitted at the event.
  • What if I can’t physically do the 3K walk or run but want to come show my support?
    A. We understand that for many individuals with obesity that a 3K walk or run may seem daunting, so we only would ever expect you to do what you know you are capable of. At any point, you can head back to the Victoria Park. No one will think any less of you! The most important thing is you come to the event and make us proud! This event is most importantly about increasing awareness.
  • Will there be washrooms available to use?
    A. We will have portable washrooms in Victoria Park for participants to use.

    Once your campaign is set up, it’s time to spread the word. The more people you share your campaign with, the greater the impact. Share your campaign page link via email and through your favourite social networks. Find quick-links to share on your campaign page near your profile image.
  • How can I change my profile picture?

  • I recieved a cash donation. How do I add it to my fundraising page?

  • How do I make sure I get a t-shirt in my size?
    A. We have t-shirt sizes ranging from Adult XS to 4XL. Make sure to register online no later than Sunday, September 30, 2019 to ensure you get the size you are looking for. We are not able to order any more t-shirts after the listed deadline and will not have t-shirts available for people who register onsite the day of the event.
  • I don't have a credit card and/or don't want to register online, how can I register offline?"
    A. If you don't have a credit card and/or don't want to register online, please print off and complete this registration form. Please send a cheque (all cheques must be made out to: Strides for Obesity Walk) to the following address: QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation5657 Spring Garden Road, Park Lane Mall, Suite 3005Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 3R4 Within five business days of receiving your registration form, you will receive an email including your personalized username and password.
  • I can no longer attend the event, can I get a refund or defer my registration?"
    A. We are not able to offer refunds or deferrals. Also, note that no registration kits (t-shirt and event kit) will be available for pick up after the day of the event or mailed out, so if you can’t attend and would still like your t-shirt and event kit please try to have someone else pick it up for you.
  • How do I register?
    A. You can register online here. Deadline for registration online is Wednesday, October 16th, 2019. You can also register onsite the day of the event with cash or credit/debit. However, participants who register the day of the event will not receive a t-shirt.
  • Can I register as an individual participant now but form a team later?
    A. Absolutely! To switch teams or form a team after you’ve already registered, please contact our system administrator at stridesforobesity@gmail.com. If you would like to join an existing team: - Your team Captain can add you from their participant centre - Or add yourself from your participant centre by clicking on the "Join a Team" button in your menu bar!
  • Can I pick up my walk kit in advance?
    A. Absolutely! To help ease the lineups Saturday morning, we will be having an advance event kit pick up at Aerobics First . Volunteers will be there on: Thursday, October 17th, 2019 – 5:00-8:00pm Friday, October 18th, 2019 - 5:00-8:00pm.
  • Is a portion of the registration fee a considered donation?
    No. Your registration fee does not apply towards your fundraising.
  • What responsibilities does a team captain have?
    A. Team captains are the heart of the walk. As a team captain, you’ll recruit your team of family, friends, and coworkers, help them fundraise, keep them motivated and have fun fighting for a great cause in the process. You will also have access to a team fundraising web page and numerous tools to make your team a success.
  • How many people should be on my team?
    A. We recommend teams of 5-10, however, there is no required number of people. Tell your friends, family, and coworkers why you are walking and ask them to join you — you’ll have a team in no time!
  • Why does it cost more to do the virtual walk?
    A. The registration fee is $45 per person for the virtual walk so that we can get you your great t-shirt and awesome medal mailed out to you anywhere in Canada. We have had many requests from different parts of Canada who have wanted to be involved so we are extending that option through a virtual walk.
  • How can I feel more part of the Strides for Obesity event?
    A. We encourage all virtual participants to take selfies and have fun with photos while striding in your Strides for Obesity t-shirt and when you complete your walk post them to our Facebook page and tell us the details about where you are from and where you walked so we can all share in your support and more importantly your success!
  • What is the last day to register as a virtual walker?
    A. To allow us to be able to mail your t-shirt and medal to you in time for the Strides for Obesity event, the last day for the virtual registration will be Sunday, September 22th, 2019.
  • What is a virtual walk?
    A. Simply put, a virtual walk is a walk on your own terms. You choose the location, the time, and your own distance. You can choose to walk: - The same day as the Strides for Obesity event in your home town on your own or with maybe a few friends; Or- Rally a team for support, choose your own time, your favorite trail, on a beautiful road, or even on a treadmill at the gym … the choices are endless. A virtual walk gives everyone an opportunity to participate in the Strides for Obesity event in a meaningful way. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have walkers from all over Canada pulling together to support obesity awareness, eh? Let’s do this for all patients living with obesity in Canada!
  • Why register for the virtual walk?
    A. By registering for Strides for Obesity you are joining the fight to end obesity stigma. You get the opportunity to participate in an amazing event from afar and show your support for those affected by obesity. Find more information at about obesity and why walk?.
  • How do I start fundraising?
    A. One of the best ways to start fundraising is to start by sharing your personal story about why you're participating in the walk. You can also log in to your Participant Centre to send emails to your friends and family, you will also find donation request and thank you email templates, your can personalize if you wish, that will link directly back to your personal donation page.
  • When people sponsor me, what payment methods can they use?"
    A. You can collect pledges either online, or in person by using a pledge form. If you have collected most of your donations online but have collected one or two, you can fill out the donation form. Online donations may be made via credit card. All cash or cheque donations may also be given to the participant. For further details on what to do with cash and cheque donations view the following question: “How do I collect offline donations/pledges?”.
  • What should I do with the money and cheques that I collect?
    A. If you receive cash or cheque donation, you can print and complete a pledge form in full so your donors can receive their income tax receipt. You may either drop it off or mail it to the QEII Foundation office. Our address is: QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation 5657 Spring Garden Road, Park Lane Mall, Floor M3, Suite 3005, Box 231 Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 3R4 Please Note: - All cheques must be made out to the “Strides for Obesity Walk" - Ensure the pledge form is legible and has the donor's contact information (name, address, and phone number) for receipt purposes. - Ensure the name of the participant and email, whose fundraising total it will be applied too, is on the pledge form. - Please roll your coin donations before dropping them off.
  • How will the money raised be used?
    A. By participating, you will be helping the thousands of Nova Scotians that are living with obesity every day. The funds raised will be used to support the local Halifax Obesity Network at the QE2 Health Sciences Centre. These funds will go towards the development of new patient resources and invest in expanding the program to improve access, wait times, and care for patients.
  • Will I receive a tax receipt if I sponsor myself?
    A. Yes, you are eligible for a tax receipt when you donate $10.00 or more above the registration fee. Please check your junk mail if you do not receive an email. We advise that you print off a copy of the final page of the donation email for your personal record.
  • How do I collect offline donations/pledges?
    A. If your donors support you with a cash or cheque donation, for simplicity consider using your credit card to process their donations. You can use the money giving to pay yourself back right away and provide income tax receipt for the donor: Simply fill out the donor section of the online pledge or donation form with their information and the billing section with your information. Advise your donors to watch for an email reply that will contain the income tax receipt, which they can save or print immediately. Alternatively, you can print off and complete a pledge form for every cash or cheque donation you receive. Once completed bring both the donations and pledge or donation form with you the day of the event or send directly to: QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation5657 Spring Garden Road, Park Lane Mall, Suite 3005Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 3R4 Please Note: All cheques must be made out to the “Strides for Obesity Walk” Please return pledge or donation form before August 31st, 2019 to ensure that your fundraising totals are as up to date as possible and minimize discrepancies. (anything collected after please bring with you on event day) Ensure the pledge or donation form is legible and has the donors contact information (name, address, and phone number) for receipt purposes. Ensure the name of the participant and email, whose fundraising total it will be applied to, is on the pledge form. Please roll your coin donations before dropping them off and NEVER send cash in the mail for safety purposes. Keep a copy for your records. Those donating by cash or cheque will receive mailed receipts by December 31, 2019. PLEASE NOTE: any offline donations received on event day will not be added to your fundraising thermometer total but will count towards your fundraising total.
  • Will my sponsors receive a tax receipt?
    A. Yes. Donors who pledge $10.00 or more will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes. - If they sponsor you online they will receive a tax receipt immediately via email. Please check your junk mail if you do not receive an email. - If they give youcash or a chequein-person view the following question: “How do I collect offline donations/pledges?”.
  • When does online fundraising close?
    A. You up have to Monday, October 21st, 2019 to collect pledges online. Offline pledges are only being accepted until Saturday, October 19th, 2019 on event day!
  • Do I have to raise money in addition to the registration fee?
    A. No, you just need to register, but if you choose to raise money, the funds raised by the Strides for Obesity will go towards enhancing the quality of life of those in Nova Scotia affected by obesity through education, awareness and access to care by supporting the Halifax Obesity Network. When you fundraise, you promise them that support is always possible!! 💜
  • I can’t attend the event but would still like to donate, can I do this?"
    A. We understand with everyone’s busy schedules that you can’t always participate in everything you'd like to, but you can still donate online to the event by clicking the “donate” button and know that you’re helping support Strides for Obesity.
